Meet the Little Leaders. They’re brave. They’re bold. They changed the world!
Author and Illustrator Vashti Harrison will be touring schools in October as part of the UK’s Black History Month. We want to take this time to focus on her bestselling book Little Leaders: Bold Women in Black History, featuring 40 trailblazing black women who achieved extraordinary things. To celebrate, Puffin Books are offering a Black History Month celebration resource kit for libraries, shining a spotlight on historical figures that have the power to inspire today’s little leaders in communities around the UK.
Go on an inspirational journey and encourage children to consider what it means to be a leader – and how they themselves might become leaders of the future. There will also be an exclusive competition for libraries who take part to win one of 10 signed copies of Little Leaders for both the winner and their chosen library.
Little Leaders educates and inspires as it relates the true stories of both iconic and lesser-known female figures of black history. From nurse Mary Seacole to Politian Diane Abbot, children will find heroes, role models and everyday women who have achieved great things.
We are offering 100 free Little Leaders activity kits for public libraries. These include:
- x20 Little Leaders pin badges
- x20 resource kits
- x20 competition activity sheet (photocopiable for extra participants)
- x20 “how I will become a leader” postcards
- There will also be a digital activity pack available
All children who complete their competition activity sheet will be entered into a prize draw to win one of 10 signed copies of Little Leaders for them and their library.
This is strictly one pack per order so if you are ordering packs for more than one public library you can either order these individually or email Kimberley.Sheehan@readingagency.org.uk. Please make sure that you include the library name in your address so that we know where the packs will be used.
This offer is for public libraries only.
You can order this pack until 28 August but they may well sell out before this date.
The publisher would love to see how you use their provided resources throughout Black History Month in October. You can do this on social media using #LittleLeaders and will be asked to tag @PuffinBooks, @readingagency and the author @VashtiHarrison.
Please note, if you order a Little Leaders pack you are agreeing to use the materials within your library and to send photos of your display and feedback of any events to Kimberley Sheehan by 19 November.
The publisher will be dispatching your resources. They will receive a dispatch list with your contact name and work address (which you give) for delivery. They will only deliver the pack requested and the dispatch list will then be deleted after the packs have been sent.
