Reading Well Books on Prescription helps people to understand and manage their health and wellbeing using helpful reading available from public libraries.

Building on the success of Reading Well for children, Reading Well for mental health, Reading Well for dementia and Reading Well for long term conditions, a new booklist to support the mental health and wellbeing of teens has been developed. It is an update and refresh of the 2016 Reading Well for young people or “Shelf Help” scheme, focusing on teens mental health and wellbeing in a post-pandemic context. The titles provide information, advice and support to help teens better understand their feelings, handle difficult experiences and boost confidence.

The booklist is targeted at teenagers (13-18) but includes a wide range of reading levels and formats to support less confident readers and encourage engagement. Some of the recommended books suggest useful self-help techniques; there are also personal stories, graphic formats, and fiction. Alongside the books are a selection of digital resources to support teens.
